Federal programme National Urban Development Projects: Support for programme monitoring

Since 2014, the federal government has been funding projects with special urban development significance and high investment requirements under the National Urban Development Projects programme. Support for programme monitoring was set up for the first time in 2020.

In addition to supporting the selection process and promoting networking between the participating municipalities, the programme's monitoring activities in the period from 2020 to 2023 focused on evaluating the results of the programme. This was the focus of the IfS's work in the project. Firstly, an evaluation concept was developed. During the course of the project, qualitative data was collected in case studies and expert interviews, among other things. These were analysed together with statistical data on the almost 200 funded projects. The analysis provides information on processes and actor constellations. The final report contains statements on the achievement and recommendations for ensuring the quality of projects. This contributed to the further development of the programme. During the course of the project, events of various formats were organised, which the IfS supported with planning and moderation.
