Population dynamics in medium-sized cities - interactive city portraits

Various medium-sized cities have recorded population growth in recent years. What typical constellations, framework conditions and control mechanisms can be identified?

On the one hand, the research project pursued the goal of gaining a deeper insight into the growth dynamics of medium-sized cities in Germany in the sense of basic research. This was intended to concretise, typify and illustrate existing analysis results on factors and characteristics of growth processes.

On the other hand, the aim of the research project was to shed light on the controllability of growth dynamics in the sense of application-orientated research based on the influence of attractiveness characteristics.

Control options, actual influence and possible need for correction in the control process were worked out. Groups and types of cities were identified and illustrated using seven example cities. The presentation was further sharpened by means of validating workshops. In addition, some of the results were prepared as a short video.
