Integration of refugees into the regular housing market

In the study, the IfS examined housing provision for refugees as an important component of integration.

After the initial care and accommodation of asylum seekers was the focus of public and political debate in 2015, the integration of refugees took center stage in 2016. The main focus of the research project was on the question of the extent to which municipalities succeed in integrating refugees with protection status into the regular housing market. To this end, the framework conditions, accommodation concepts and experiences at municipal level were examined in ten municipalities.

One of the secondary objectives was to gain an overview of the distribution of refugees. To this end, the distribution and accommodation of refugees in the asylum process and of refugees with protection status were researched.

The project team derived recommendations for action from the analysis of framework conditions, actor constellations, strategies and local conditions.
