Common good 3.0 - Elements and fields of action for embedding the common good debate in housing policy and strengthening cooperative housing
The creation of housing for the common good has increasingly become a focus of public attention since the mid-2010s. Among other things, there has been debate about a new non-profit housing sector, conflicts and alliances in neighborhood development. In addition, the discussion often refers to cooperatives as actors oriented towards the common good.
The project had two thematic focuses: On the one hand, the aim was to create a well-founded, critical overview of the debate on the common good up to 2021 and to derive starting points for a dialog from this. Secondly, it was about housing cooperatives in the context of the common good, their fields of action, potential, etc. and recommendations for support.
Methodologically, document research was primarily used to process the debates and existing findings. Expert interviews were used to investigate in-depth topics and special instruments. In addition, the investigation of individual housing cooperatives contributed to the deepening of special approaches and constellations.
The aim was to provide key elements for the further development and application of housing and urban development policy programs and instruments for the creation and preservation of affordable housing through a housing policy oriented towards the common good.
