Housing policy for the common good - fields of action, potentials and good examples of foundations and other non-profit actors
Tight housing markets and the desire to provide disadvantaged target groups with housing and to take housing away from speculation are often the starting point for the involvement of foundations, cooperatives and other non-profit actors in the housing market.
In addition, there are few offers on the housing market for the desire to live communally. Together with UrbanPlus, the research project analyzed what role foundations and other non-profit and low-profit actors play in providing housing and what projects they implement. A mix of qualitative and quantitative methods was used for the survey.
The result was a structured overview of the relevant market players, representative projects and examples of foundations and other relevant players and their relevance to housing policy. In addition to foundations, the model of the rental housing syndicate ("Mietshäusersyndikat") and cooperation with cooperatives and other players were analyzed. The examples also include projects and actors from Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Recommendations for the support of housing projects oriented towards the common good by the federal, state and local governments were derived from the results.
