Scientific monitoring and evaluation of the “Erfurt Südost” model project for the further development of the Urban Development Support Programme

In the large housing estates in the south-east of Erfurt, urban development projects are being implemented as part of the model project to counteract social division and segregation in the area.

The focus is on the urban networking of large housing estates, the further development of open spaces, infrastructure and housing supply.
The subject of the scientific monitoring and evaluation are measures in several fields of action, ranging from the participation process and the development of strategies and concepts to (re)construction measures for buildings (especially social infrastructure), open spaces and transportation facilities.
The aim is to evaluate the results of the projects at the process, product and operation/use levels using selected indicators in order to assess how urban development can contribute to combating social division and segregation.
In addition, overarching questions will be answered in order to derive recommendations for the further development of the Urban Development Support Programme from the pilot project.
The methods used include document analyses, guided interviews, citizen surveys and forms of participant observation.
